Rachelle Dean
Rachelle DeanYear 9 Adviser

I have been teaching for twenty eight years, twenty three at Mullumbimby High School. I teach literature and am part of the English Faculty. I have been an active member of staff and over the years have worn many hats like: Acting Head Teacher of English, Sports co-coordinator, Year Advisor and Literacy co-ordinator, a member of the Welfare Team and the Merit and Discipline team, just to name a few.

My goal for Year 9 in 2019 is to continue to support their well-being as they journey through the middle years. My mantra has always been ‘be nice to one another’. It takes so much energy to be ‘nasty”; however, one kind word to another can be transformative for the other person and you.

This year, students can study three electives that have chosen. This is a wonderful transition into middle school because students feel they have some control over their educational journey.

On the 11th March, some fortunate Year 9 students have the opportunity to participate in the Year 9 South Passage Excursion. South Passage is a 100 foot gaff rigged Schooner, built specifically for adventure sailing and education. South Passage is owned and operated by the not for profit association The Sail Training Association of Qld Inc. The members of the association are volunteers, with a desire to make a difference in the lives of young people. Students will learn how to operate the ship, developing skills in the areas of team building, leadership and personal growth.
