I have taught in the Public Education system for 33 years, commencing as a Languages/HSIE teacher at Kingscliff High School in 1987. From 1997-1999 I was the State Japanese Language Advisor for Education Queensland. In 2000, I was appointed Head Teacher Languages, teaching Japanese and later Chinese at Southern Cross School K-12/Distance Education in Ballina. I taught many Mullumbimby High School students studying languages through Distance Education during this time. I became the Deputy Principal of Southern Cross Distance Education Centre in 2015 and have most recently been Co-Principal of Ballina Coast High School.
Having been raised in a small country town in western New South Wales, I was taught to value my family and my community. I married my wife Karen in 1991 and I have three daughters who have all left school and are now working, studying and travelling. We were very involved in the Lennox Head/Alstonville Surf Lifesaving club and several other sporting clubs. I love the beach, watching the sunrise and to travel. I have lived in Japan where I learnt the value of learning another language and to respect other cultures and people.
I am proud to be appointed as the Principal of Mullumbimby High School, as it very well known for its commitment to academic excellence, creative, performing and sporting achievements. I am excited to be joining a school community that values and celebrates diversity and to join a team of educators who I know I can lead to make a difference to students’ learning and wellbeing.
